Jersey Palm Process
Learn all the work it took to create The Jersey Palm.
The Jersey Palm is a school project. We got into groups and had to create a restaurant. We had to come up with every little deatil, including the price to make the food, logos, slogans, hours, a real building, menu, workers, machines, tables, floorplan, decorations, walls, floors, advertisements, budget... the list just keeps going on and on! Tommorow we will present our restaurant in front of judges, competing against other restaurants! We started this whole project in late November. We started off by getting into groups and getting our job that our teacher assigned. Each group has about 7 kids in it. The jobs were CEO,advertiser, designer, technology person, budget person, and a couple more, which I can't recall at the moment. I am the advertiser. Advertising isn't as easy as it may sound. Researching prices is a killer. But overall, advertising is pretty fun. We made a commercial, and a billboard was also designed. So was THIS WEBSITE!
The first day of working on the restaurant project was a little rough. It was just a little chat about our ideas. A few days later, we met again in class and discussed ideas we had created on our own. Here were a few of our ideas
- holiday themed restaurant that changes theme depending on current holiday
-Bumblebee themed resaturant, with a hive shape
There were also many more creative ideas. Finally, the idea of a beach themed idea was thought of. Everyone loved the idea! At first, we planned to actually make the restaurant look like a beach for those who had never been to one. But we ran into several problems. Actually, we didn't even think of the name, The Jersey Palm, until a couple weeks! Guess what our orignal name for the restaurant was? The Beach! HAHA. Looking back on it I can't believe we were actually going to call our reststaurant The Beach. Other names were Coco Hut, Surf Shack and The Wave. Finally, The Jersey Palm was born!
Even after we thought of the name of the restaurant, I do have to admit that my group was a little, "crazy." It was hard for us to all concentrate. For about a month, we didn't really get much done. I mean, we got done hours, logos, and slogans and all, but we didn't really get into the swing of things until actually a couple weeks ago! Phew. A couple weeks ago, we met at on of the group memebers house. We did get some things done. We filmed The Jersey Palm commercial. We had this HUGE really confusing packet to fill out! Luckilly, we learned we didn't have to fill it all out. We met another time too. We got a lot of things done. We still had a huge display board to cover. Last week (January 24 or something), I was still really worried about getting the display board done. To everyone's surprise, one of the group members brought in the display board fully finished! Thank you Adriana. Since then, we have been working really busy, as for the project is being judged tommorow! We have these awesome paper palm trees attached to the display board. The display board looks great!
Well that's the process of creating The Jersey Palm. We have worked many many hours on the whole thing, and will be happy tommorow when it will finally be finished. Wish us good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
